AIS Base Stations

AIS Shore Stations are used for surveillance and management of vessel traffic along coastlines, on inland waterways and in ports.

The AIS Shore Station VDL 6000/FASS provides all the features required for surveillance and management of vessel traffic. It is easily configured to the specific needs of individual customers, from a basic unit to a fully redundant system with an embedded controller providing extensive processing and logging functionality.

Our base stations fulfil the requirements of international AIS standards. For customers requiring extreme availability, the advanced configuration offers a unique, cost- efficient dual-transponder solution for system redundancy. The VDL 6000/FASS is the perfect choice for the maritime authority implementing an AIS network and is also suitable for stand-alone operation at a VTS or port.

VDL 6000/FASS

The base station with basic configuration has one transponder and interfacing with a LAN, which provides AIS target information to a central VTS system. Broadcast and addressed text messaging, channel management and base station report functionality are included.

The VDL 6000/FASS can be factory configured as, AIS Base station, Limited AIS Base station, Repeater Base station and AtoN Base station.

VDL 6000/FASS Advanced

The Advanced configuration has one transponder and embedded controller hardware running unique software from CNS Systems. The shore station can be installed as a single unit providing AIS message logging, remote configuration and software update, virtual and synthetic targets, SNMP, local target filtering, remote power on/off and more. Two shore stations can be locally connected to form a fully redundant installation, where hot-standby operation including cross-wise redundancy transponder/controller between the units provides very high availability.

AIS Mobile Transponders

VDL 6000 AIS Class A/Inland Transponder

The VDL 6000 AIS Class A transponder provides SOLAS compliance and BSH-certification at very attractive prices. The VHF data link communication, including all required static, voyage-related and dynamic data, gives all vessels in an area increased situational awareness and improves safety at sea for the individual ship.

The SOTDMA technology is used in the AIS transponder which transmits and receives information on all vessels within VHF coverage. The information received from, and provided to the ships, is easily plotted on any ARPA radar or electronic charting system.

The AIS Inland transponder is type approved by Fachstelle der WSV für Verkehrstechniken FVT and broadcasts Inland blue sign status messages for upstream or downstream navigation.

The VDL 6000 AIS Class A/Inland transponder is easy to install onboard any ship and consists of an integrated Minimum Keyboard & Display (MKD).

VDL 6000 AIS Secure Class A System

The Secure system builds on existing AIS technology and supports a user to receive, schedule and transmit encrypted messages to other users. This can include transmission of secure text messages and reception of encrypted range and bearing. The Secure Class A System for naval operation can be configured in standard mode, silent mode or secure mode.

The Secure Class A System is easy to install in any ship and consists of a Transponder and Minimum Keyboard and Display (MKD) unit.

VDL 6000 AIS Airborne System

The VDL 6000 AIS Airborne transponder is developed for aircraft installation for use in Search and Rescue (SAR) and coastal surveillance missions and greatly enhances surveillance of large areas. The localization and identification of all AIS equipped vessels supports increased national security, environmental protection, and the possibility of rescuing vessels in distress.

The SOTDMA technology is used in the AIS transponder which broadcasts and receives information about all AIS equipped vessels within VHF coverage. The information received is easily plotted on an electronic charting display system. This gives a surveillance capability that was not possible prior to AIS.

The Airborne AIS transponder is the result of our extensive experience of avionics and is designed and produced to the same high demands as our VDL 4000 avionic transponders.

VDL Mode 4 Ground Stations

VDL 4000/GSI Advanced

The VDL 4000/GSI Advanced ground station is designed to support a wide range of time- critical CNS/ATM applications including broadcast and point-to-point communication. The ground station is designed for several operational alternatives, e.g. local services, as well as, wide area network solutions for critical data communication where predictability, reliability and redundancy are required.

The ground station provides features to achieve the highest level of A-SMGCS, which is a key airport component. The system supports services such that a complete gate-to-gate operation can be realized. These services include ADS-B, TIS-BFIS-BPoint-to-Point, and DGNSS augmentation (GNS-B).The ground station operates in accordance with the ICAO standards for the VDL Mode 4 digital radio link. Together with mobile transponders, an integrated system for communication, navigation and surveillance services is created.

VDL 4000/GSI

The VDL 4000/GSI ground station is tailored for ground handling and coordination of all vehicle activities at the airport. The functionality of the ground station guarantees that each user has access to the latest information in real time, enabling maximum use of Collaborative Decision Making (CDM). The ground station is part of the Airport Organiser, an integrated system for communication, navigation and surveillance services.

The ground station operates in accordance with the ICAO standards for the VDL Mode 4 digital radio link, offering a robust and reliable communication platform for all airport vehicles operating in the maneuvering and apron area. The system has long range at low power and very good transmission characteristics on the ground at airports where the radio environment is a tough challenge.

VDL Mode 4 Aviation Transponders

VDL 4000/A

The VDL 4000/A transponder is a multi-purpose data link transponder developed for commercial transport aircraft and operates in accordance with the ICAO standards for the VDL Mode 4 digital radio link. This transponder supports services for all phases of flight such as a complete gate-to-gate operation, including following applications: departure clearance, 4D trajectory exchange and advanced surface movement, guidance and control operation. Services such as ADS-B, TIS-BFIS-B, point-to-point communication and DGNSS augmentation (GNS-B) are embedded and fully supported by the transponder.

The form factor of the transponder corresponds to the Arinc 600 standard and includes Arinc 600 connectors and Arinc 429 interfaces. The transponder is certified and delivered with an EASA Form 1 tag. This certification level allows the equipment to be used onboard aircraft for non-safety-critical applications.

VDL 4000/GA

The VDL 4000/GA transponder is a multi-purpose data link transponder designed to support the requirements of general aviation. The data link transponder provides ADS-B and supports other services, such as weather and traffic information, and has several interfaces to support a cockpit display of traffic information (CDTI).

The transponder is certified and delivered with an EASA Form 1 tag. This certification level allows the equipment to be used onboard aircraft for non-safety-critical applications.

The transponder supports services such that a complete gate-to-gate operation; departure clearance, en route, terminal, approach, landing, and surface movement, guidance and control operation. It broadcasts the aircraft”s position, identity, velocity, projected track, altitude, and more to other equipped aircraft in the vicinity, as well as to ground stations.

VDL Mode 4 Vehicle Transponders

VDL 4000/AO

The VDL 4000/AO transponder has been developed to meet the stringent demands of safe surface movement operations and more efficient utilization of airport resources. Based on aviation requirements, the transponder is optimized for A-SMGCS and ground handling applications.

The vehicle transponder operates in accordance with the ICAO standards for the VDL Mode 4 digital radio link. It is the only standardized data link that is also suitable for time-critical applications and is characterized by very high delivery probability from the unique self-organized TDMA VHF data link. Its FM modulation scheme (GFSK) gives the data link long range at low power including very good transmission characteristics on the ground, e.g. at airports.

The transponder is an important component of the Airport Organiser system through its ability to transmit and share information in real time, enabling collaborative decision making (CDM). CNS Systems also provides an on-board display with a digital moving map presenting surrounding traffic which increases the situational awareness for the driver.
